Hallux abducto valgus

In the case of hallux abducto valgus (bunion), the big toe grows towards the other toes rather than parallel to them. This can have problematic consequences for the rest of the foot – for example, the appearance of a permanent bump near the big toe, and pressure from your shoes on this bump can subsequently lead to bursitis. Because the big toe is pushing away the other toes, it can create corn and malformations. Because of the wrong position of the big toe, callouses and pain in the arches of your feet.

Any of the following can be a cause for hallux abducto valgus.

  •  wrong shoes (too small and/or too tight)
  •  incorrect functioning of the foot
  •  heredatariness
  •  reumathoid arthrisis
  •  a trauma or accident

For your treatment we might opt to use ortheses, shoe inserts, felt pad therapy, foot treatments and advice on proper footwear. Everything will be done to avoid pressure points on the foot, to stabilise your foot's condition, and to relieve pain.
